Feet in the Sand

A four-year olds foot prints in the sand. The occasion was the celebration of her mother’s birthday with a trip to the beach. Only, she isn’t four any more, just as the footprints are no longer, just as the day has moved on to another. We cling to the idea of permanence, building nations and monuments, but it is an illusion. Some things last longer than others, but sooner or later it is all washed away like footprints in the sand.
