The Paulina Lakes (east and west) and Paulina Peak are part of the Newberry Crater which is really a caldera located halfway between Bend and La Pine. Obsidian is everywhere. Just to the right of this view there is a large flow of pumice and obsidian. It’s hard to grasp how large and how much violence it took to create this area. I had been to the area before. Intellectually I knew the history of the area, but the view from the Peak let me comprehend.
